Philip Chudy offers his automotive clients compelling visual solutions which are informed by a range of photography disciplines and cutting-edge imaging technologies. His toolkit ranges from purist studio and location photography to high-end retouching and hands-on CGI. Chudy shoots special effects for advertising and also produces fine art.
His main interest is storytelling, whether he’s creating photographic realism, minimalistic product images or exotic visual fiction.
With automotive imagery, storytelling most often is related to the way a car sits in relation to its environment. Car images always feature an environment, even if this is not more evident than in the reflections in the bodywork or simple shadows under the wheels (as per in a seamless ‘cut out.). The environment is akin to ‘negative space’ in graphic composition. The mystery of relating to stuff which is outside the bounds of a photo is always compelling in storytelling terms.
Car advertising often features little more than the car itself, but the desire to make the imagery exceed the limits of the page it is printed on, is one of the things which Chudy cites as most engaging about automotive photography/CGI.
Chudy’s fine art work has been featured in many large solo shows throughout Europe and the US. His commercial images have illustrated campaigns for blue-chip car clients and concept and product advertising..
Chudy hails from Zimbabwe and has served clients from studios in London, Edinburgh, Frankfurt and San Francisco
